Holiday decorations using jar lids

Posted on: | Category:

Looking for an easy craft that will keep your kids busy?

Let them get creative with just a bit of glue, a recycled jar lid, kitchen foil and some scraps of recycled paper, ribbon, buttons etc.

What you need:

  • Jar lids
  • Kitchen Foil
  • Glue (Top tip: White craft glue dries clear)
  • Materials for decorating lids; e.g. recycled wrapping paper, construction paper, ribbon, glitter, buttons
  • Paper clips or string for hanging decoration

What to do:

  1. Cut a piece of foil about twice as big as the jar lid.
  2. Place the foil on a flat surface. Put the jar lid flat side down (top of lid) on the foil.
  3. Wrap the jar lid in the foil.
  4. Pour glue into the bottom of the jar lid.
  5. Decorate with bits of ribbon, coloured paper, buttons .... Be creative and have fun.

Top tip: Place jar lid in a recycled plastic tray or cardboard before you sprinkle with glitter - it is easier to tidy up!

  1. Leave lid to dry.
  2. Use an unfolded paperclip, or attach string to top of lid, to hang the decoration.

Or for Version 2

  1. Cut a piece of foil about twice as big as the jar lid.
  2. Place the foil on a flat surface. Put the jar lid flat side down (top of lid) on the foil.
  3. Wrap the jar lid in the foil.
  4. Decorate the flat (top) side of the foil wrapped lid.
  5. Leave lid to dry.
  6. Use an unfolded paperclip, or attach string to top of lid, to hang the decoration.
