Play my way!
Setting up an invitation to play using natural, manufactured and recycled loose parts (open-ended materials) encourages your child to be curious, explore and discover through undirected play.
Put out things you know will spark your child's interests, e.g shells, beads, buttons, sticks, leaves, bun cases, scoops, clothes pegs and tongs (great for encouraging the development of fine motor skills).
Encourage your child to explore mathematical concepts and language by including objects that can be sorted and counted, dominoes and dice. Write numbers and mathematical operations on loose parts. Adding weighing scales, rulers and tape measures might encourage an exploration of measurement.
Let your child follow their own interests and choose when and how to engage with the materials. Notice , and listen to their play, it's often in an unexpected way.
Be amazed at your child's creativity and problem solving skills.
